Total, complete fiction. I had that little guitar part at the beginning and I built the whole song around the sound and feel of that one little guitar part. This is Michael's favorite song on the CD.
There are two songs on the CD that are about Michael and I asked him one day if he minded. He said no and asked me which two songs were about him. Then I got all embarrassed because I wasn't prepared for the question. Telling him which two songs would be like actually being mushy, right? And I'm not a very mushy person! So I told him to guess which two. He said, "I don't know, but I'm hoping it's Hattiesburg and House On Fire because those two are my favorites." I laughed and said that those were definitely NOT the two. So he asked if he could tell people that they were anyway. Silly boy.
That deep booming drum you hear is Kelly playing a silk screen, yes-the very same tool used by artists and T-shirt designers. The other drum that sounds like rolling thunder is this proto-type, one of a kind drum that Kelly found on an online auction. We recorded the guitar and silkscreen live, just Kelly and I sitting across from each other with Daniel at the board on the other side of the room. Even though I messed up about a billion times, and it took two days for me to get it right, Kelly says recording this song was one of his favorite parts. Daniel played the "guitar on fire" (that's what we dubbed it) later on when no one was around because he only had a few pairs of earplugs handy.
