Milton Moats plays bass on Songs From Shannon. He's a little conservative, and nobody knows much else about him--even band mate and best friend, (and Golden Mile member) Rick Lovelady. Milton puts on a suit and works a job for the State Of Alabama during the day, but at night mysteriously transforms into driving bass man for his band (with Golden Mile members Rick Lovelady and David Kilmer), The Amazing Live Sea Monkeys. Still, his conservatism shows through--you can see Milton towards the end of Monkeys' performance breaks, checking his watch and nervously looking around for his tardy band mates.
Leslie says of Milton: "Milton is so meticulously thorough and such a perfectionist that he took written notes for everything! When Rick, David and I went back to the studio for the final mix, Milton sent us along with our own copies of his notes that he took during the recording, in case we needed to reference anything. We dubbed them Moats' Notes and we ended up using them quite a bit. Milton was also the one who knew which ideas were not going to work before anyone else had figured it out. And he's so diplomatic... He wouldn't just say, "That sucks." He'd wait until the end of the evening of practice and come up to me and say, 'I just don't think that arrangement does justice to your song.' Incidentally, looking back on a few things we tried--I was really lucky he was there looking out for me."
