Kelly Simpson plays drums and percussion on Songs From Shannon. He has been a much sought-after staple in the Birmingham music scene for quite some time; and currently plays in several bands, including The Hurlers (with Golden Mile members Luke Lucas, Kenny McDowell and John Otey Hutchinson) and Mr. Bubble. Kelly was also the drummer for Leslie Braly's most recent band, the now-defunct Mary Jo's Daughter. In his spare time, Kelly is a clay sculptor.
Leslie says of Kelly: "Kelly is an amazing drummer. He took David Kilmer's idea and arrangement for Hattiesburg and put a beat on it that is so naughty it caused my mother to exclaim, 'Kelly! If I had a drummer like you behind me, I think I could do a little runway work!' He also sat through about a million takes of House On Fire, drumming away on that silk-screen while I tried to finish my guitar part without messing up. Kelly's a saint and his drumming makes me sing better."
